A Statement of Work (SOW) is a formal, legally binding document in project management that defines the project’s specifics.

It defines the project’s specifics such as: goals, scope, activities, deliverables, timelines, resources, and costs, acting as a clear roadmap and contract between a client and a service provider or contractor to ensure mutual understanding and successful project execution, preventing scope creep and disputes. It details the “what, when, and how much” of the work, aligning all parties on expectations and responsibilities.
